Why is the BiKBBI different to other organisations?

The BiKBBI is the UK’s first and only institute dedicated to the kitchen, bedroom & bathroom installation sector.

Being an institute makes us completely unique as our objective is to support industry specific professionals whilst conducting research at the highest level.

Can anyone join the BiKBBI?

BiKBBI accreditation is for specialist kitchen, bedroom or bathroom installers only.

Installers who meet our entry criteria are invited to make an application.

We welcome applications from all installation businesses, whether you’re a sole trader or larger business.

I own an installation business with several installers, how do I apply?

The iKBBI is not an umbrella organisation, which essentially means that we accredit all lead installers, in addition to your business.

You will need to register all lead installers when making an application and you are not allowed to just register some.

How does the accreditation process work?

Accreditation can be undertaken with 3 weeks from start to finish if the applicant is quick and accurate when returning the paper application.

I have a criminal record. Will this affect my application?

All applicants must present a Certificate of Basic Disclosure, issued by Disclosure Scotland, when applying for iKBBI accreditation. This can be obtained online, however the BiKBBI will provide paper applications when you make your accreditation payment.

Whilst we have a duty to protect consumers, our members and the organisation itself, we review all applicants as individuals and handle previous convictions without prejudice. We assess each application individually and handle sensitive and personal information in the strictest of confidence and in line with our corporate responsibility under the Data Protection Act of 1984.

What are the benefits of membership?

That largely depends on the member. Using gym membership as an analogy, join, pay your subscription, use the gymnasium and pool regularly, take full advantage of the facilities and you’ll more than likely get great benefit. On the other hand, join, pay your subscription, never go and its unlikely you’ll see any benefit at all.

The same applies to BiKBBI membership. First and foremost the iKBBI independently accredits installation professionals. Members should be able to use their government sanctioned independent accreditation to their commercial advantage – but again, it is for the member to exploit their status.

How long does membership last?

iKBBI membership lasts for 12 months and is renewable thereafter. On month 11 we’ll contact you for renewal, which at that point is optional. We’ll trust your judgment!

Are there discounts available for membership?
The simple answer is unfortunately no. The BiKBBI is a not-for-profit registered organisation, so there’s no margin for discounts.

What happens if my application is rejected?

Before making your application, make sure you meet the entry criteria.

In the event your application is rejected, you will be issued a refund of money paid, less a £30 administration charge.

I was a previous member and let my membership lapse. Can I rejoin?

Yes, simply contact us for information on how you can re-join.

There’s no need to complete an online application again, although we will confirm previously submitted information when you contact us.

I was a previous member but my membership was cancelled by the BiKBBI. Can I rejoin?

Please contact us to discuss, but it does depend on the circumstances in which your membership was cancelled.

I’ve opted to by for accreditation by monthly Direct Debit – how does this work?

By opting to spread the cost of BiKBBI accreditation, you are committing to the entire accreditation cost.

Like a mobile phone contract, if you choose to end membership early your membership fee is still applicable and you will be liable for full repayment.

There is a one-off £30 administration fee for all Direct Debits. This is paid for on application by credit or debit card. The annual fee is then divided over 11 months once your membership commences… We’ll send the Direct Debit mandate for your completion once you’ve made the initial application.

Direct Debits are a convenient way to spread the cost of accreditation, however fees do apply in the event payments are not made on time. The bank applies these fees to us and we are unable to waive them, regardless of the circumstances.

What do I receive when membership is granted?

We’ll send you a member welcome pack, which includes an ID card & lanyard, together with your certificate of accreditation.

You’ll also receive a van sticker, which we encourage you to use.

You’ll also receive a username and password for the BiKBBI members website, which is your portal for all things BiKBBI related.

Absolutely Yes!

You can download the logo via the members website for use on a number of formats, including clothing, digital and printed matter including websites, business cards and advertising.

Only current BiKBBI members are permitted to use the member logo that is registered trademark owned by The British Institute of Kitchen, Bedroom & Bathroom Installation Limited.
